Indie Pulse - From Sweet Melissa Records

A NEW KIND OF ONLINE MUSIC STORE

Have you ever--through whatever means--discovered an indie band whose music spoke to you? A solo artist who seemed to know exactly what she was doing?

Have you ever searched and trawled through the great depths of the web, starving for whatever taste of their music you could get, only to find that the only place which sold it is a tiny record store in Borgholm, Sweden, which does not ship overseas, or even seem to have an online store?

We're here to stop that happening ever again.

Sweet Melissa Records proudly presents IndiePulse, a one-of-a-kind web store dedicated to helping you find, buy and enjoy indie music whenever and wherever we can.

Each artist in our store has been personally selected by our small panel of expert music reviewers. Mostly, they are local artists who have garnered accolades in their own arena--we want to bring them out for everyone to hear.

We're constantly updating and adding new, great artists, so check back often, and you can also sign up for our mailing list (we promise: no spam. ever.) to keep up to speed.

A SHORT (BUT IMPORTANT) NOTE ABOUT AUDIO FORMATS

We offer two types of audio formats in our store: mp3 and FLAC.

Our mp3s are almost always CD quality (the highest fidelity mp3s can be), but this file type is naturally lossy due to the fact that it goes for convinience of size rather than preservation of quality. (Mp3s basically cut off the highest and lowest ends of the sound spectrum in the track--the stuff human ears can't hear very well--and squish the track into as small a file as it can.)

Our FLAC files are always CD quality or better, but they differ from mp3s in that they are naturally lossLESS; that is, they keep perfectly true to the original track. The only slight drawback is in their size--roughly twice the size of mp3s. However, these files are completely worth it: FLAC is the highest fidelity audio file which can be played on a computer.

(Note on the note: certain media players may not be able to play FLAC files. VLC media Player is free and can play any media format you may care to name. Email us with any questions you may have concerning media players and audio formats.)

Noble Thieves

Keep it simple, stupid.

When looking at the meager arrangement of musical instruments donned by the folk-punk group Noble Thieves, it becomes obvious that Brent Buckner and Christian Roemer are no strangers to this familiar catch phrase.  Consisting of a kick drum, high hat, guitar, and banjo, one would be led to believe they are simply a similar permutation of the folk music revival taking place in multiple indie scenes in many cities, but as they start playing, one is quickly carried into a new musical experience.  Too acoustic to be considered rock, too loud to be considered folk, too sloppy to be considered bluegrass, too young to be considered country, and too old to be considered indie.

Noble Thieves bridges so many gaps that it’s hard to point out exactly where one genre of influence begins and the other ends. Without too much thought, one is left singing along with tunes that they’ve never heard, but feel like they’ve known their entire lives.
